As Europe sharpens its focus on knowledge valorisation and the strategic use of intellectual assets, a new initiative - IAM4RE.eu (Intellectual Asset Management for Research and Entrepreneurship) - has been launched to support this shift. The project reflects a broader trend in European research and innovation policy: moving beyond reactive IP protection toward a more proactive, opportunity-driven approach to managing assets that can maximise the societal and economic impact of public research.
The IAM4RE.eu initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of universities, research organisations, and spin-offs to manage and valorise their intellectual assets more effectively - not only through patents, but also through know-how, data, and other non-traditional forms of IP. To support this, the project will deliver practical training resources, including a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and a policy-oriented toolkit designed to help early-stage innovators and entrepreneurs better navigate the innovation landscape.
This growing emphasis on strategic intellectual asset management signals a wider recognition across the EU: turning knowledge into real-world impact takes more than legal protection. It requires a shift in mindset, stronger skills, and a shared understanding of how to manage intangible assets in ways that truly drive innovation.
More information will be published soon on the project's website: iam4re.eu
