Government officials have expressed reliance on start-ups and academia to drive the generation of intellectual property rights (IPRs) in the telecommunications sector, particularly focusing on next-generation technologies like quantum communications, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.
According to reports, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is encouraging multinational companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, and Qualcomm to engage in collaborations with university institutions to develop new technologies. This initiative aims to foster the creation of IPRs and promote the development of locally produced products in the telecommunications sector.
One official mentioned that the government aims to achieve at least 3% of essential patents in next-generation mobile telecom technologies by 2027. Additionally, the government aspires to capture 3% of the global telecom equipment market share within the same timeframe.
