Football fans in India may soon have some clarity on where they will be able to follow the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, after months of uncertainty over broadcasting rights. Concerns had grown in recent months as no media rights agreement had been announced, raising questions about the competition's availability in one of football's largest markets.

Industry sources have revealed that FIFA is close to reaching an agreement with Zee for the India media rights package for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The agreement is reportedly valued at around USD 30–35 million. Previous discussions between FIFA and Reliance-Disney did not result in a deal, and although Sony Pictures Networks India explored the opportunity, they did not submit a formal bid. The situation remains subject to final confirmation, and further developments are expected shortly.
