The EUIPO promotes Intellectual Property Awareness at the 3rd Ghana-EU Business Forum

Ghana-EU Business Forum

Last week, the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the Africa IP SME Helpdesk, as part of the EU-Funded project AfrIPI, hosted a breakout session on practical intellectual property (IP) at the 3rd EU-Ghana Business Forum in Accra. The event was in line with the forum’s goal of fostering dialogue between institutions and private sector stakeholders from both Ghana and the EU.

The session on IP highlighted the strategic role of IP in nurturing innovation, competitiveness and sustainable development. It explored practical aspects such as IP registration strategies in Ghana, how SMEs can protect their IP through preventive measures, the importance of strong enforcement in IP protection, and how it contributes to better investor climate and fosters development.

In addition, the EUIPO engaged directly with SMEs and business support organisations at the Africa IP SME Helpdesk stand in the EU Village.

This marks the second time that the EUIPO has engaged in the EU-Ghana Business forum through the Africa IP SME Helpdesk, strengthening its commitment to raise awareness and offering first-line support on IP issues to EU and African SMEs through this project. Apart from the forum in Ghana, the EUIPO, through the Africa IP SME Helpdesk project, also took part in the EU- Kenya Business Forum 2025 (12-13 May) and the EU- Zimbabwe Business Forum (20-22 May)
