The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has published a new episode of its podcast series “Creative Sparks. From inspiration to innovation”, focusing on the EUIPO’s SME Fund and its role in supporting European businesses.
The episode, “Built to grow: When SMEs protect what matters”, explores one of the EU’s flagship initiatives aimed at making intellectual property (IP) more accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises. Elisavet Karagiampi, Action Manager for the SME Fund at the EUIPO, and Álvaro Sáez, co-founder of the AI start-up HechicerIA based in Alicante, discuss the SME Fund and how businesses can benefit from EUIPO support.
The podcast series was launched on 1 December 2025. The first episode, “Crafted to last: from tradition to innovation”, introduced the EUIPO’s new competence on Craft and Industrial Geographical Indications (CIGIs), which entered into force on the same date. That episode formed part of the “GI Week” programme organised around the launch of this new responsibility.
The second episode, “The idea makers: Europe’s new home for copyright”, published on 28 January 2026, examined the role of copyright in supporting creativity across Europe, including in sectors such as music, film, publishing, design and digital content, as well as in the context of emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence.
The “Creative Sparks” podcast series aims to make intellectual property more accessible and engaging for Europeans, businesses and creators. The series will continue with further monthly episodes.
