A new EU-wide survey has been launched to better understand the activities, competencies, and needs of knowledge valorisation intermediaries—key actors in translating research and innovation (R&I) into impact for markets, society, and policymaking.

Intermediaries, such as technology transfer professionals, incubators, innovation hubs, IP experts, and science communication or policy engagement teams, play a crucial role in connecting stakeholders across the innovation ecosystem. Their importance is recognised in the Guiding Principles for Knowledge Valorisation, which highlight their function in facilitating collaboration and enabling the effective use of research results.

As part of the ERA Policy Agenda 2025–27, the survey contributes to efforts to strengthen knowledge valorisation capacities and develop a dedicated competence framework for intermediaries. It aims to map their roles, skills, and activities, while identifying gaps in resources, training, and support.

The survey is open until 30 April 2026
