The European Union and India have concluded negotiations on a historic and ambitious Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the largest ever reached by either side. The agreement strengthens the economic and political ties between the world's second and fourth largest economies. This is important because it underlines their shared commitment to open, rules-based trade at a time of growing geopolitical tensions and global economic challenges.

Currently, EU–India trade exceeds €180 billion in goods and services annually and supports nearly 800,000 EU jobs. The agreement is expected to double EU goods exports to India by 2032 by eliminating or reducing tariffs on 96.6% of EU exports to the Indian market, generating annual savings of around €4 billion per year in duties. It represents the most ambitious trade opening India has ever granted, offering EU industrial and agri-food sectors preferential access to a market of 1.45 billion people and one of the world’s fastest-growing large economies.
