The European Patent Office (EPO) has launched the Data Desk, a new online platform that provides free access to patent data and technology intelligence for innovators, researchers, businesses, and policymakers. Developed by the EPO Observatory, the platform brings together global patent trends, technology indicators, and deep-tech insights in a user-friendly environment designed to support evidence-based decision-making.

Unveiled at VivaTech 2026 in Paris, the Data Desk enables users to explore, analyse, and visualise patenting activity across countries and technology fields with greater detail than ever before. The platform initially features curated datasets on energy transition technologies and quantum computing, with additional technology areas planned for release later this year.

The launch comes as the European Commission advances its Technology Sovereignty Package, reinforcing Europe's ambitions in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and energy. By providing accessible and actionable patent intelligence, the Data Desk aims to support Europe's innovation ecosystem and strengthen technological competitiveness.
