The National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DINAPI) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) are collaborating on a new Industrial Design Law draft in Paraguay, aimed at updating and modernizing Law No. 868/81 to align with international standards.
The draft, prepared by international consultant Laurent Manderieux, an international consultant hired by AL INVEST, and DINAPI officials, has been shared in three working sessions with various stakeholders, including rights holders and academic representatives. Key updates proposed include changing the nomenclature to "industrial designs," incorporating animations, and adhering to international regulations.
DINAPI's National Director, Claudia Franco Quevedo, emphasized the goal of creating participatory legislation that fosters protection and development in the context of global market challenges. Insights from these sessions will contribute to the modernization of the legislation, aligning with the new Riyadh Treaty on Design Law adopted by WIPO.
