India is seeing a marked increase in enforcement actions against counterfeit goods, with recent raids targeting sectors such as pharmaceuticals, luxury products, electronics, automotive parts, and fast-moving consumer goods. Conducted in coordination with brand owners, these operations point to a more structured and proactive approach to tackling counterfeiting.

Authorities are increasingly moving beyond isolated interventions, adopting coordinated strategies that involve intelligence gathering, surveillance, and multi-agency collaboration. Raids are often carried out simultaneously across multiple locations, aiming to disrupt entire supply chains rather than just retail outlets. Large-scale seizures highlight the organised nature of counterfeit networks and the growing priority given to addressing them.

India’s legal framework supports these efforts through both criminal and civil measures. The Trade Marks Act, 1999 provides for prosecution and penalties, while civil remedies enable rights holders to seek injunctions and damages. Additional support comes from laws such as the Information Technology Act and the Consumer Protection Act, particularly in addressing online infringements.

Together, these developments reflect a shift towards more robust and coordinated anti-counterfeiting enforcement in India.
