The Government of Brazil has made a voluntary contribution of BRL 1,500,000 (approximately 244,000 Swiss francs) to support World Intellectual Propoerty Organization (WIPO) administered capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening the use of intellectual property (IP) by innovators and creators across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Portuguese-speaking African countries.
Brazil’s contribution will be managed through a “funds-in-trust” arrangement, which operates independently of WIPO’s regular budget and is dedicated to advancing specific work areas.
An agreement establishing the framework for enhanced collaboration in IP capacity building was signed by WIPO Director General Daren Tang and Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, marking a further step in Brazil’s commitment to fostering innovation and IP development in the Global South.
The funding will be deployed over the next four years, with WIPO working in close collaboration with national IP offices, regional organizations, and local partners to ensure the maximum impact and long-term sustainability of the supported programmes.
