Brazil's National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) published, in the Official Gazette of the Union on April 29, a new regulation that allows trade mark owners to indicate more than one registration in applications for recognition of high reputation.

In practical terms, this means that a company no longer needs to file separate applications for each trade mark registration. With the change, companies can bring together in a single application the trademark registrations that operate in different classes of goods and services.

In a press release, the INPI reported that this facilitates the process for recognized brands that act in various segments, such as fashion, which can include clothing, bags, and glasses, among others. The measure represents a significant reduction in the administrative burden for large business groups whose brands are present in multiple market categories.

The modification was built on the basis of the project called "Dialogue with Stakeholders", carried out in 2025:  an initiative that sought to listen to users of Brazil's intellectual property system and improve INPI's services.

This participatory origin reflects an institutional effort to adapt regulation to the real needs of the business sector, adopting a more collaborative approach to the development of standards.
