On 7 July 2025, the Argentine government published Decree No. 462/2025, which restructures the INPI. The reform aimed to reduce public spending, refocus the agency's work on IP services, and modernise patent procedures using new technologies, including AI.
The decree eliminates non-IP-related functions such as administration, HR and procurement, streamlines the management structure by removing positions such as vice president and sub-director, and introduces the role of Chief of Patents. In addition, the Patent Law was amended to allow for simplified procedures and adaptation to technological advances.
This reform was led by the same minister who had previously advocated for broader pharmaceutical patent protection, in line with WTO TRIPS standards.
