IP utility model protection in South-East Asia

Utility models (UM) are designed to protect functional innovations and incremental advances made on an existing technology. Such innovations must be new but may not involve the level of inventiveness necessary to register an invention patent. These functional innovations are generally lower in technical complexity but still offer a competitive advantage to businesses.
