Description

.lumen is a Romanian start-up founded in 2020 to address the lack of scalable mobility solutions for the 338 million visually impaired people worldwide. The company develops smart glasses that replicate the capabilities of a guide dog, offering real-time, artificial intelligence (AI) driven navigation using patented haptic feedback instead of sound. The technology has been validated with over 300 users in nearly 30 countries and is powered by a proprietary AI system that interprets surroundings without requiring an internet connection. From the start, .lumen integrated intellectual property (IP) into its strategy, securing four U.S. patents and extending protection to over 70 countries. The company was the first Romanian startup to receive funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator, enabling it to advance product development and expand its IP portfolio. .lumen’s mission is to restore independence and mobility for millions of visually impaired individuals.
